I have suffered from IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) for many years. I finally received a diagnosis a couple of years ago from my Doctor after repeated visits.

Firstly let me say that it is imperative that you consult with your Doctor immediately -if you have not already done so - to get a proper diagnosis and to exclude serious medical conditions which may require urgent medical intervention. If your Doctor has ruled out serious medical conditions and diagnosed IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) then read on.Other names for IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) are colitis (irritable bowel), IBS, Mucous Colitis, Spastic Colon, nervous indigestion. intestinal neurosis.


In my personal experience typical IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) symptoms include:

1. abdominal bloating and pain,
2. altered bowel functions (constipation and diarrhoea),
3. wind (flatulence, nausea, anorexia),
4. intestinal cramping,
5. hypersecretion of colonic mucus,
6. backaches, fatigue, varying degrees of anxiety and depression (unsurprisingly!!)
7. and perhaps other seemingly unrelated complaints.
